Project Overview

This smart home installation in Putney, London centres around a striking contemporary property built almost entirely from steel and glass. The home features expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing and an industrial architectural style that creates bright, open living spaces.

Despite its modern design, the property lacked the technology infrastructure expected from a home of this calibre. The homeowners wanted to introduce home automation, entertainment and security systems that would enhance everyday living while remaining discreet within the design of the home.

Our role was to design and install a fully integrated smart home system that would bring together lighting, media, comfort and security into one easy-to-use platform.

A Challenging Retrofit

One of the most complex aspects of this project was the lack of cabling infrastructure throughout the property. Retrofitting a modern smart home system into a finished house constructed largely from steel and glass required careful planning and creative problem solving.

Our team installed a full network and AV infrastructure throughout the home, routing cabling discreetly through the structure while protecting the architecture and interior finishes. This created the reliable backbone required for a high-performance smart home system with no cables on show.

Seamless Smart Home Control

At the heart of the installation is a Control4 smart home platform, allowing the homeowners to control their entire home from wall-mounted touchscreens, handheld remotes and their smartphones.
Lighting, music, media, heating, air conditioning, shading and security can all be managed from one intuitive interface. Automation scenes allow systems to work together, making the home simple to control while quietly adapting to daily routines.

Entertainment Throughout the Home

Entertainment plays an important role in the home’s living spaces. A multi-room audio system allows music to be enjoyed throughout the property, creating the perfect atmosphere whether relaxing with family or entertaining guests.
The home also features two dedicated media rooms, designed for movies, sports and gaming. These spaces provide an immersive viewing experience while remaining simple for the homeowners to operate.

A Bespoke Kitchen Media Feature

A standout feature of the project is a bespoke media wall integrated within the existing kitchen and dining joinery. It features a custom mirror TV frame that discreetly conceals the screen when not in use.
The television is mounted on a Future Automation motorised bracket, allowing it to adjust seamlessly to the viewer’s position for optimal comfort.
An integrated audio system is concealed behind acoustically treated stretched fabric panels, maintaining a clean, minimalist aesthetic while delivering excellent sound quality.

Lighting, Shading & Comfort

With large areas of glazing throughout the home, managing natural light was an important part of the design.
Smart lighting scenes allow the atmosphere of each space to change throughout the day, while motorised window shades provide privacy and help control sunlight across the expansive glass windows and skylights.
Together these systems enhance comfort while preserving the open feel created by the architecture.

Security & Smart Access

Security systems were also integrated into the smart home platform, giving the homeowners complete control of their property.
Cameras, intercom and gate access can all be viewed and managed through the system, allowing the homeowners to monitor visitors and control access whether they are at home or away.

The Result

This project transformed a visually striking property into a fully integrated smart home designed for modern living.

By combining home automation, entertainment, lighting, shading and security into one seamless platform, the property now delivers a connected living experience where technology enhances everyday life while remaining discreet within the home’s architecture.
